This morning all Humboldtians, partners and families were hosted by Federal President Joachim Gauck at Schloss Bellevue. What a wonderful venue for this function. Everyone was so well catered for, especially the children with lots of games and amusement activities for them - a long time since I have seen children (and some adults) skipping. Wonderful to see such strong support from the President for science and the humanities and the close relationship with the Humboldt Foundation as this is an annual event. Late morning we then were shuttled by bus to the former Tempelhof Airport for lunch which is now a restaurant for large events like ours. After lunch we went for a tour of the lower levels of the airport including the bunkers that were used during wartime and the nerve centre for the Americans post WWII.
